Job Description

Description:

About the Company:

GSI (Glass Solutions, Inc) is a regional commercial specialty contractor with over 25 years of experience providing the highest-quality commercial glass services in the Midwest. We specialize in exterior facades, tenant improvements and specialty glazing on new, existing, and renovated building projects. We have consistently ranked as one of the Top 50 Contract Glaziers in USGlass Magazine since 2016. At GSI, people always come first.  We foster an entrepreneurial culture where team members can share ideas, be creative, learn new skills, and grow their careers.

About the Job:

The Junior Estimator is an entry-level role on our pre-construction team. You'll learn how commercial glazing projects get bid from the ground up: reading drawings, doing material takeoffs, gathering vendor quotes, and helping put together bids. You'll work side by side with experienced estimators and the Director of Pre-Con, who will train you on our tools, systems, and processes. This is a great fit for someone early in their career who is detail-oriented, comfortable with numbers, and wants to build a long-term career in construction, with a path to Estimator as your skills grow.

  • Employment Type: Salary, Exempt
  • Reports To: Director of Pre-Con
  • Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000 per year

Responsibilities:

Includes, but not limited to:

  • Support the estimating team and Director of Pre-Con throughout the bidding process
  • Set up and maintain organized project folders following company protocols
  • Learn to review construction drawings, specifications, and other technical documents
  • Perform on-screen takeoffs in Bluebeam Revu for assigned scopes, with review from senior estimators
  • Request vendor quotes and check them against project specifications and takeoff quantities
  • Help build estimate workbooks, including material costs, labor codes, and project-specific requirements
  • Track bid opportunities and keep bid activity up to date
  • Attend project walkthroughs, pre-bid meetings, and internal meetings; take notes and share updates with the team
  • Get to know our vendors and suppliers and help maintain those relationships
  • Build your knowledge of glazing materials, systems, and products
  • Shadow project managers and field teams to learn how our systems are installed
  • Follow up on bids, RFIs, quotes, and other project items as directed
  • Be flexible to meet project needs and bid deadlines
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, business, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience); recent graduates encouraged to apply
  • 0-2 years of experience in estimating, construction, or a related field; internships count
  • Genuine interest in commercial construction; glazing experience is a plus but not required
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort working with number
  • Good organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Eager to learn, ask questions, and take feedback
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office 365, especially Excel and Teams
  • Basic ability to read construction drawings, or a strong desire to learn
  • Exposure to Bluebeam Revu, AutoCAD, or Revit is a plus; we'll train you
  • Experience with Acumatica or any ERP/CRM system is a plus
