The ideal candidate will have a strong background in energy infrastructure permitting, regulatory compliance, and project development, with experience navigating local, state, and federal permitting requirements.

Experience in renewable energy, utility-scale power generation, solar, or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and resolve permitting challenges, regulatory obstacles, and approval delays.
  • Coordinate with local municipalities, state agencies, utilities, and other regulatory authorities to obtain necessary approvals.
  • Support zoning, land-use, construction, electrical, environmental, and fire safety permitting processes as applicable.
  • Review permit requirements and identify potential regulatory risks that may impact project timelines.

Regulatory Compliance & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Maintain knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations governing energy infrastructure development.
  • Serve as a key point of contact with permitting authorities, regulatory agencies, and other external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, project development, and operations teams to ensure regulatory requirements are incorporated into project planning.
  • Work with external consultants, contractors, and legal teams to address permitting and compliance issues.
  • Support resolution of permit deficiencies, agency comments, and regulatory concerns.

Project Development Support

  • Evaluate permitting feasibility and potential regulatory constraints for proposed project locations.
  • Support project teams throughout development, construction, and operational approval phases.
  • Monitor permitting schedules, approval milestones, and outstanding regulatory requirements.
  • Develop strategies to streamline permitting processes and reduce approval delays.
  • Maintain accurate permitting documentation, agency correspondence, and compliance records.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven ability to identify and resolve permitting challenges while managing multiple project priorities.
  • Strong organizational, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering, construction, and business teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting utility-scale energy infrastructure, renewable energy, solar, power generation, or BESS projects.
  • Familiarity with permitting requirements for battery energy storage facilities and electrical infrastructure.
  • Experience with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), fire marshals, utility interconnection processes, and environmental agencies.
  • Knowledge of applicable energy storage safety standards, including NFPA 855 and UL 9540/9540A.
  • Experience managing permit corrections, resubmissions, regulatory disputes, or delayed project approvals.
  • Previous experience working with energy developers, utilities, engineering firms, or EPC contractors.
  • Experience supporting multiple projects across different jurisdictions.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a proactive, solutions-oriented permitting professional who understands how to navigate complex regulatory environments and move energy infrastructure projects toward successful approval.

This individual should be comfortable working directly with regulatory agencies, identifying potential permitting obstacles, and developing practical solutions to keep projects progressing.
